The Football Transfer Saga: Kylian Mbappe has joined Real Madrid as a free agent

Pre-season has started now and the transfer window is expected to ramp up soon, following the conclusion of Euro 2024 and the Copa America.

So let’s go over some of the transfers that have already happened.

Alvaro Morata :

Serie A giants AC Milan have signed Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid after activating his release clause. Morata joins on a contract until June 2028 with an option for a further season. Spanish side Atletico will receive a €13m fee after Milan met the clause. Morata will be adding a significant amount of depth. He won the Euro 2024 with Spain, captaining the side.

Leny Yoro :

Premier League outfit Manchester United announced the signing of young defender Leny Yoro from Ligue 1 side Lille on a contract that will run until 2029.

At 18, Yoro has already made 60 appearances for Lille’s first team. He was also included in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season in the last season. He played a key role in helping Lille finish in the fourth spot in the league last season.

The fee is understood to be €62m (£52.2m) plus €8m of add-ons and Yoro becomes their second signing of the summer, after last week’s arrival of Joshua Zirkzee.

Mason Greenwood:

Marseille has signed forward Mason Greenwood from Manchester United until 2029 in a deal worth up to 31.6m euros.

Greenwood, 22, was a product of United’s academy but has not played for the Premier League club since January 2022 and was on loan at Getafe last season. Serious charges against him, including attempted rape and assault, were dropped in February 2023.

He made his competitive senior debut for United in 2019 as a substitute against Paris St-Germain in the Champions League. He scored 35 goals in 129 appearances and won his only England cap in 2020.

Savinho:

Manchester City have completed the signing of Savinho from Troyes after his spectacular break-out loan season at Girona. City has signed the Brazilian on a five-year deal until the summer of 2029, City will pay an initial fee of £21m ($27.5m), with the deal potentially containing £13m ($16m) in add-ons.

Savinho never played for Troyes but he gained fame last year while on loan at Girona. Savinho led Girona to third place in La Liga and a Champions League berth for the following season with nine goals and nine assists.

Now it’s time to find out about the biggest transfers of this summer.

Kylian Mbappe:

France forward Kylian Mbappe has joined Real Madrid as a free agent on a five-year contract, the La Liga club has announced, ending a transfer saga that rumbled on for years.

The club is hoping to offset the costs — a salary of at least 15 million euros per season and a signing bonus of more than 100 million euros ($A162m) — through sponsorship deals and ticket and merchandise sales.

Kylian Mbappe has already won 17 trophies and scored 331 career goals before making his predestined move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2024.

So these were some of the transfers which had already been done in the summer.
