Where is the Opening Ceremony taking place?
The Paris 2024 Olympics will officially commence with a historic Opening Ceremony on the river Seine on Friday, July 26.
For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony will take place outside a traditional stadium, opting for an open-air parade along a 6km stretch of the River Seine. The river parade will follow the course of the Seine, from east to west, nearly four miles. The parade will depart from the Austerlitz bridge beside the Jardin des Plantes at 1:30 p.m. Eastern time and will go around the two islands in the heart of Paris, the ÃŽle Saint Louis and ÃŽle de la Cite.
A ceremony open to as many people as possible is a first. Eighty giant screens and strategically placed speakers will allow everyone to enjoy the magical atmosphere of this show reverberating throughout the French capital.
How many athletes will participate?
More than 10,500 athletes are slated to compete in the 2024 Olympics. And while not all will make their way down the River Seine.
What time does the Opening Ceremony begin?
Although the Opening Ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. ET, it will air again in primetime, beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.
